VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Our park thrives thanks to the time and energy of local volunteers. Getting involved helps keep the park welcoming for everyone – and it’s a great boost for both physical and mental wellbeing too.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome. If you’re under 18, you can take part with an accompanying adult. To get involved, please get in touch via our contact page.
Leeds City Council’s Parks team works hard with very limited resources, focusing mainly on essential tasks such as grass cutting, bin emptying, playground upkeep, and safety maintenance. Our volunteers make a huge difference beyond this – helping the park stay tidy, cared for, and continually improved.
Our volunteering opportunities include:

Keeping our park tidy
We organise regular litter-picking sessions, usually once a month, which are shared on our social media and with volunteers on our register. We provide purple Litter Free Leeds bags and can loan litter-pickers for each session.
These events are great for young families as well as individuals, and usually last around 30–60 minutes. You’re also very welcome to help out by litter picking independently whenever it suits you.
Developing our park
We run monthly park maintenance sessions for volunteers on our Volunteer Register. Activities may include planting trees and woodland plants, pruning, and clearing undergrowth.
Sessions usually last up to two hours. We provide all the tools and equipment needed, and there’s always guidance to help you get involved safely and confidently.

Gardening
Our gardening group helps care for the herb garden, planters, and small garden areas around the park.
The group runs on a rota, with times arranged to suit the volunteers involved.
Construction and maintenance
Our volunteers have built the herb garden, planters, little library, and bird and bat boxes across the park.
From time to time, these need a bit of maintenance, and we also take on new construction projects as opportunities arise.
If you have practical skills or experience to share, we’d love your help when it’s needed.

Park events
From time to time, we host small community events in the park and may need extra help on the day with setting up, packing away, or clearing up afterwards.
For larger events, we also welcome volunteers who can help with planning and organisation in the months leading up to the event.
Planning for our park’s future
Our friendly committee, made up of people from the local community, guides the work of Friends of Moortown Park and helps shape our plans for the park.
If you’d like to get involved in planning or take on responsibility for some activities, joining the committee is a great way to make a difference!
