ABOUT FRIENDS OF MOORTOWN PARK

What we are
Friends of Moortown Park (FoMP) is a volunteer group dedicated to maintaining and enhancing Moortown Park for the local community.
Since 2016, we have worked alongside local residents, Leeds City Council, and other stakeholders to create and preserve a safe, green, and welcoming park. The park officially opened in December 2018 after we played an active role in its design and development.
Our committee, made up local members, meets a few times a year to ensure our activities align with our mission. We are committed to keeping the park a vital and enjoyable space for all.

What we do
FoMP focuses on park maintenance and development, community events, fundraising, and liaison with Leeds City Council.
We complement the efforts of the Council’s Parks team by handling tasks that fall outside their budget, including planting, clearing paths, and maintaining garden areas. Some of our key projects include:
- Planting over 350 trees and shrubs
- Creating both a Community Orchard and a herb garden
- Maintaining and improving the garden areas and informal pathways
- Additional native planting to add colour and interest to the park
- Building bird and insect homes
- Constructing and managing a Little Free Library
- Additionally, we’ve hosted community events like Summer Fayres and the “Picnic in the Park” to bring people together and raise funds. We also secured funding for extra benches, ensuring more seating for park visitor.

Our guiding principles
Preserving the Nature of the Park: We aim to maintain the park’s natural, informal character by preserving woodlands and meadows; and avoiding overly manicured spaces.
Serving the Community: We strive to act in the best interests of park users and the local community, fostering collaboration with Leeds City Council while considering the diverse needs and preferences of our park’s visitors.
Join us in keeping Moortown Park a beautiful and thriving space for everyone!
